Q::( My professor told me once that I hadn't "the right to write any way I pleased until I had earned it." I was really frustrated, because I had a voice, a style that I wanted to portray through my pieces and she basically stamped on it. That being said, I think that TKoW has earned her place to write however she pleases on her blog. I know I do. I write SO horribly on my blog, BUT it's effectively communicating my voice. Blogging is the modern man's answer to a diary. My thoughts unhinged.
Thank you for your thoughts! It’s true that anyone with a blog should be able to write any which way they damned please- after all, it is THEIR life, THEIR experiences, THEIR corner of the internet. However, TKoW claims to be a writer (which I didn’t know when I sent her my original message). Not just somebody who writes, but a writer. She also states that she hates editing, and, mostly glaringly, her writing reveals not only a lack of attention to composition, but a lack of proficiency in basic writing skills. If she wants to write in sentences with garbled clauses, confusing voice, and incorrect grammar, that’s well and good. But it seems awfully strange to me that, time and time again, she demonstrates a tenuous grasp of basic technical skills and little to no interest in crafting accurate sentences that are pleasing to the reader, all the while claiming herself a writer and English student. She’s a fine curator of content, but not a fine writer. If this was math, cooking, or rocket science, you wouldn’t be allowed to say “but this is the way I want to do it! It’s just as good!” The same goes for writing.
